Amadai Center: A Multifunctional Building Redefining Urban Design

Unveiling a Paradox of Roughness and Elegance

Inspired by the birthing process and the paradoxical beauty of roughness and elegance, the Amadai Center by Notash Dadjoo is set to become a new symbol for the city of Hamadan, Iran. This innovative design seamlessly integrates into its natural surroundings while offering a multifunctional space for the community.

The Amadai Center stands as a testament to the harmonious coexistence of nature and architecture. The concept of birth, with the head appearing first, is translated into the building's design by burying half of the structure, creating the illusion of it emerging from the ground. This paradoxical approach is a reflection of the rugged mountainous landscape that surrounds the site, with the building's rough forms contrasting against the lush greenery.

What sets the Amadai Center apart is its commitment to sustainability and contextual design. The project takes into account the city's radial plan, ensuring visibility from the main streets and establishing a strong connection between the site and the urban fabric. The design also pays homage to the local heritage, incorporating elements that celebrate the cultural identity of Hamadan.

With an introverted design, the Amadai Center responds to the local cold climate while creating a welcoming and inclusive space for the community. The building features a centralized and buried form, minimizing heat loss and maximizing energy efficiency. The facades are adorned with rough and dark materials, adding to the building's unique aesthetic and reducing the need for excessive maintenance.

Inside the Amadai Center, a variety of functions coexist harmoniously. From retail spaces and a gym to educational facilities and a planetarium, the building caters to the diverse needs of the community. The design also incorporates social spaces, such as a plaza and various elevation levels, encouraging social interactions and creating a vibrant atmosphere.

Spanning over 44,500 square meters, with a total building area of 11,800 square meters, the Amadai Center is a testament to the designer's meticulous attention to detail. The project was realized using advanced technologies and materials, ensuring the highest quality and durability.

The Amadai Center, completed in January 2019, has already garnered recognition for its outstanding design. Notash Dadjoo and the design team were awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2020 for their innovative approach and creative ingenuity. This prestigious accolade acknowledges the project's contribution to quality of life improvements and its seamless integration of art, science, design, and technology.

The Amadai Center stands as a testament to the power of design to transform urban spaces and create a lasting impact on communities. With its unique blend of roughness and elegance, this multifunctional building is set to become an iconic symbol of Hamadan, Iran.
